Default Am I missing something about PvP?

So, I don't really enjoy Guild Wars PvE, but I don't want to get stuck in the rigid , hypercompetitive GvG or HA guilds. I want to PvP on my time and have fun doing it. That said, I've been doing a lot of AB, but I don't even know why I'm doing it anymore. The Jadeite is a waste for me since I don't PvE (and correct me if I'm wrong but, PvP characters can never get the faction armor) and donating for the title track isn't very exciting.

Is there any PvP gametype I can do that will allow me to play whenever I feel like it and actually get some useful rewards? I have most of the skills I need for the builds I like, so grinding points for skills I don't need is boring. Random arenas are also impossibly frustrating, as well as the attitude of players I've run into in Team Arenas.

Thanks for the advice.

The only item rewards you will get from PvP are victory chests in HA, and Zkeys from balth faction. This really isn't WoW, pvp in guild wars is meant to be self-rewarding. That and titles (epeen).

So, since I can't do HA...I'm stuck opening chests? That's unfortunate because AB is really, really, really boring. It's not what I expected to be doing. (Fighting mobs to cap shrines more than players.) There's not much rewarding when the only on-the-fly PvP you can do besides Randoms feels like PvE with a few player obstacles thrown at you every 3~ minutes.

Quite disappointing.

Maybe you should play Counter-Strike if you don't like Guild Wars.

Based on your comments, your options are:

1) Less competitive HA or GvG guild. People will mop the floor with you regularly, but it's an option. With an HA guild, the advantage is that in time you may graduate to being a better team. You're likely to have more "good" nights initially in a semi-competitive GvG guild, especially if you don't AT and play later at night. (Once you accumulate some rating, it'll be tough sledding.)

2) Hero Battles. The ultimate in "play whenever I want and have no accountability to anyone else". If you get good at it, the ATs and monthly can provide decent Z-key rewards, in addition to the faction.

You can always sell the Jadeite for cash with which to buy other things, but that's a slow way to make money in this game.

I tried Hero battles and got slaughtered. I can't really micromanage like that, at all. It was incredibly overwhelming. I also like being on a team of actual players far more.

I'm still definitely not interested in joining a guild to have to do any sort of significant PvP.

I guess there's not much I can do, then. I might suffer through some more frustrating RA matches and see I don't kill myself by the 3rd go-round, to clarify my opinions.

Hero Battles, you only got yourself to blame if you suck and you get easy balth factions(and ranks, but no one cares about that ;0)

I'm not asking for rewards. I'm asking if there's something other than AB for someone who doesn't want to get into the more hardcore, guild dependent PvP. AB is barely PvP to me. It wasn't my point that the rewards from AB were bad. It's that it's PvE with other players against you, and on top of all of that, there's no real point in putting yourself through it.

I just want to know if there's another option I can take that might give me some enjoyment. Why the bitter responses?

Here's an idea. Go to AB, Aspenwood, or JQ matches. Spend 5k on zkeys. Sell them. Save up enough gold to pimp yourself out or buy whatever you want and use them to your liking. Whether it's for the pwnage or the lawlz.

HB might help you get balth factions easier than the former mentions, but that depends on how successful your matches are.

I'm just trying to figure out what you want. You don't wanna join a guild for "significant PvP" yet you want to PvP. You're doing AB and it's boring...you did HB and got slaughtered...RA and TA are frustrating. I'm tending to think you want a shooter like CS or something like that because, other than what you've done and what's been mentioned, there's really not much else to do.

So yeah, if you're not having fun with it->try something else for a bit.

well, this game being team based, you're left with either sticking out grinding AB, or hero battles.

All else will probably require you to be on a team that is a little more organized than, meh im in the mood to PvP...

That's exactly the type of answer I was looking for. Some people seemed upset that I didn't really like a lot of what I tried and thus, felt I was whining about it, and it wasn't made clear there really was nothing left, so I thought they were just flaming.

I'm totally fine with me having tried it all (besides organized/scheduled PvP) and disliked it, but I wanted to know if I was missing anything before I moved on.

Thanks.

Just wondering...

How much pve and where? What don't you like about it? It can be easy or fairly hard..harder than alot of AB.

The thing with Guild Wars is that the majority of high end competitive PvP takes place in a team environment where people need to practice and play together to have any success at all. The only thing that isn't like that is hero battles, which you said was overwhelming (just for note, competitive gvg would most likely be even more overwhelming than that in matches).

So yeah, there honestly isn't that much to do if you don't want to commit to a guild. There are guilds out there where you can join and casually gvg or ha whenever you log on and feel like it because they have a lot of players to pick from and just play whenever, but it won't be super high up on the ladder and you would still be having to join a guild at least, then.

HA isnt really that competitive, its pretty casual if you can get a few friends together and just have fun

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds to me like you are a "bad" player who has no interest in real competitive play (probably partly due to the fact that you are bad and hate the grind to get good). You don't like AB because it's full over even worse players than yourself and you want $$ rewards (even though you don't PvE you say) and jade/amber is worth nothing. You don't like RA because it is not serious enough for you, but you don't like TA because it requires grind again to get good. You also don't like HB bc... you suck at it too.

All I can get out of this is, you don't like to be bad at something and put the time in to get good, but at the same time you don't enjoy the low end pvp where casual (and I use that word very loosely) players should be. I suggest you either pug HA, do some gay gimick since you're just looking for fun and not honor, OR get a group of friends that enjoys AB/RA/TA and play with them (preferably over vent) so you can talk and have more fun than running around on a MB ele in AB with 1 hand down your pants scratching your balls because you're bored to death (vent will require your second hand to use push to talk).

That is pretty much what I got from this too. Sorry but this game really doesn't have anything in it that fits your desires. Either change your attitude toward it or go find something else that you will enjoy. My recommendation is that you go play an FPS. Because you can just hop on whenever you want and start a meaningless killing spree for the sheer enjoyment of it.

Here's your options as I see it:
Go do FA/JQ, they're not amazing fun, but you can run actual fun builds instead of the same thing over and over. Just don't confuse "fun" and "terrible".
Join one of the... 2... maybe 1, if any TA guilds still out there.
Join one of the local spamming HA guilds. They usually just pick up 8 and go, so any time you're on and a team is forming you'll be eligible to go. Although, you'll have a much higher fail-rate.
